Project Description
What is Sanguinol?
Sanguinol® is an orange powder derived from the extract of the Papaveraceae plant ( Macleaya cordata) with a standardized amount of sanguinarine and chelerythrine, which are natural benzophenanthridine alkaloids (QBAs).
Sanguinarine, the main compound of Sanguinol®, can be determined by HPLC-analysis in the feed.
They are known to have antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, and immune-modulatory effects. Sanguinarine has been incorporated into swine, bovine, and poultry diets to decrease amino acid degradation, increase feed intake, and promote growth. Improvements in protein retention by reducing the intestinal decarboxylation of aromatic amino acids through the inhibition of L-aminoacid decarboxylase (Drsata, J., J. 1996 ) and enhancement of feed intake by modulating effects on the Trpserotonin pathway have also been suggested as part of their a mode of action (Mellor, S. 2001. ).
How does it work?
The results of a pharmacodynamic study showed that M. cordata could improve liver function of acute hepatic injuries in rats caused by tetrachloromethan or galactosamine. M. cordata could lessen the level of serum LDH and mortality of rats, increase ratio of serum A/G, protect cellular membrane effectively and inhibit fibrosis in rats with chromic heptic injury caused by tetrachloromethane. M. cordata still enhanced the function of T and B lymphocytes (Yang et al., 1999).
For which species ?
Swine: In weaned piglets, growing pigs, late gestation and lactating sows, It has the effects of promoting growth, anti-stress, and improving intestinal health.
Poultry: Sanguinol® can increase feed intake and weight gain of broilers, reduce feed-to-meat ratio; improve intestinal health, improve diet digestibility, reduce overfeeding; enhance body resistance, prevent disease infection; improve egg production rate, reduce mortality rate. It can also prevent and treat Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens infections in broilers. Alaeldein M. Abuda-bos and other studies reported that benzophenanthridine alkaloids from Sanguinol® could reduce the intestinal tract damage of broiler chickens challenged with Salmonella typhimurium, promote broiler’s growth performance and gut health. G. D. Xue et al. reported that the alkaloids extracted from Sanguinol® can promote the recovery of growth performance and meat production performance of broiler chickens challenged with Clostridium perfringens, and lower the score for lesions of duodenum, jejunum and ileum in challenged broiler chickens.
It can also effectively against parasites
Rumants: Preventation of Cryptosporidia,Mastitis and metritis
Aquaculture: It can kill many parasites that threaten the production of aquatic animals, such as Schistosoma japonicum, ring worm and melon worm, and it can promote growth, improve immunity, improve health and other aquatic animals, such as perch, red tilapia, koi, carp, and South American shrimp. On red tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), compared to the control group, the allochthonous lactic acid bacteria(LAB) populations were lower (Mark D.Rawling* et, 2009)
*Sanguinol® can be mixed with premixes, feeds, minerals, milk replacers and drinking water.
