Description:

Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic beta-lactam antibiotic effective against a broad range of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation by β-lactamase-producing bacteria.

Indication:

Bacterial infections in calves, swine and poultry, caused by microorganisms susceptible to amoxicillin such as respiratory infections (I.B.R., R.S.V., pleuropneumonia), gastrointestinal infections (enteritis, colibacillosis, post-weaning diarrhoea), secondary bacterial infections during the course of viral disease, coryza and pasteurellosis in poultry and Glässer’s disease in Swine.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to penicillins, severe renal impairment, active microbial digestion.

Dosage:

For oral administration in drinking water, artificial milk or feed.

The recommended dose is 20 – 40 mg amoxicillin per kg body weight twice daily for swine and calves, and 20 mg amoxicillin per kg body weight per day for 3 to 5 days for poultry.

Swine and calves ………. 37.5 – 75 g per 100 litres of water

Swine and calves ………….. 100 – 150 g per 100 kg of feed

Poultry ………………………………. 20 g per 100 litres of water

Poultry …………………………………… 40 g per 100 kg of feed

If required, double the recommended dose. Medicated water, milk or feed should be used immediately and refreshed every 24 hours for the duration of the treatment

Side effects: Gastrointestinal disturbances.

Precautions and warnings:

It is recommended that the susceptibility of the causative microorganisms is established before treatment is commenced. Severely sick animals have altered drinking patterns and may need to be medicated parenterally. Dosage may need to be adjusted to reflect herd or flock water consumption.

Meat and offal: 5 days (calves and swine); 1 day (poultry)

Store under dry conditions below 25ºC.

Expiry date is 2 (two) years after date of manufacture.
