Pharmacological action

This product is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial drug, has strongest in vivo and in vitro antibacterial activity among sulfanilamide. It has strong inhibitory effect on most gram-positive and negative bacteria.
Sulphonamide is structurally similar to the p-aminobenzoic acid, it can compete with p-aminobenzoic acid for dihydrofolate synthetase in bacteria, it hinders dihydrofolate synthesis and ultimately affect the synthesis of nucleic acid, inhibit the growth of bacteria. The effect of sulfa can be antagonised by drugs producing p-aminobenzoic acid(procaine and tetracaine). In addition, the pus and tissue decomposition products can also provide the necessary substances for bacterial growth and antagonize sulfa.Trimethoprim is an antibacterial synergist and can inhibit the activity of dihydrofolate reductase.The combination can cause synergistic effect and enhance antibacterial effect.

Indication:

Mainly used for respiratory tract, digestive tract, urinary tract infection, coccidiosis, toxoplasmosis and so on caused by sensitive bacteria.

Drug interaction:

1. When sulfamethoxypyrimidine is combined with diaminopyrimidine (antibacterial synergist), synergism can be shown.
2. It is not suggested to combine with with some drugs containing p-aminophenylacyl and yeast tablets.For some drugs containing p-aminophenylacyl such as procaine and tetracaine, can produce PABA in the body; yeast tablets contains the PABA needed for bacterial metabolism. They will reduce the effect of this drug.
3. Combining use with diuretics such as thiazide or furosemide can aggravate renal toxicity.

Dosage:

For calves, kids, lambs, pigs, poultry, rabbits

50g per 1L water for 3-5days
