Project Description
Decoquinate 6%
For prevention and control of coccidiosis in lambs and calves.
As an aid in the control of coccidiosis in lambs, by medication of ewe feed.
As an aid in the prevention of abortions and perinatal losses due to toxoplasmosis by medication of ewe feed.
COMPOSITION:
Each 1 kg contain:
Decoquinate 60 g
Excipients 940 g
Pharmacological action
DECOQUINATE 6% has a wide spectrum of antiprotozoal effect, effective against Toxoplasma spp, Eimeria tenella, E. acervulina, E. necatrix, E. maxima, E. brunetti, E. mitis, E. praecox, E. bovis, E. zuernii, E. ellipsoidalis, E. cylindrica, Eimeria arloingi, E. ninaekohljakimovae, E. intricata, E. faurei and other types of eimeria. Decoquinate is the antiprotozoal composition of 4- Hydroxyquinoline, retains eimeria development at the early phases. The mode of action of decoquinate lies in disturbance of electrons transportation in the mitochondrial cytochrome system of eimeria. Decoquinate has its effect in digestive tract of stock and poultry, is poorly absorbed and egested unchanged with fecal matter. As a result, decoquinate remnants in tissues are insignificant and are promptly excreted. It is compatible with vitamins and feed additives used in poultry farming and cattle breeding. The product is moderately toxic for homoiotherms.
Contraindications
Do not mix with or into feeds containing any other anti-coccidial product.
Mode of administration
Orally, thoroughly mixed into feed. In order to reach uniform homogenization with feed, it is recommended to mix the measured quantity of the preparation (calculated on the basis of the prescribed dose) on stages in the following order: up to 10 kg feed; up to 100 kg feed; and up to 1000 kg feed.
Target species
Chicken,Sheep and cattle.
Dosage:
Preventive treatment of eimerioses in broilers chicken, rearing stock
0,333 - 0,667 kg/1 ton of feed equivalent to 20-40 mg of decoquinate/1 kg of feed. The product with feed is given to chicken within the entire feeding period (from the first days of life) removing the product off the ration 3 days prior to slaughter.
Lambs and calves eimeriosis treatment
Species and indication | Method of administration | Recommended dose level | Recommended duration of treatment |
Treatment of coccidiosis in lambs and calves and prevention of coccidiosis in lambs | In lamb and calf feed | 1 mg decoquinate/kg bodyweight daily | At least 28 days |
Prevention of coccidiosis in calves and as an aid in prevention of coccidiosis in lambs | In calf and ewe feed | 0.5 mg decoquinate/kg bodyweight daily | At least 28 days |
As an aid in the prevention of abortions and perinatal losses due to toxoplasmosis | In ewe feed | 2 mg decoquinate/kg bodyweight daily | Continuously for 14 weeks prior to lambing |
Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary
Overdosage is unlikely with in-feed medication. Decoquinate dosages of 4 mg/kg bodyweight in sheep and lambs and 6 mg/kg bodyweight in calves have been found to be well tolerated and without observable side effects.
